Western Vic JOTA/JOTI – Cooinda Burrong Scout Campsite

Welcome to the page for Western Vic JOTA/JOTI, a dedicated radio and electronics camp held in the Grampians National Park in western Victoria.

Our camp caters for around 70 Scouts from across western Victoria, from the coast to the Mallee and all places in between.

We run eight activity sites that the Scouts rotate through as Patrols. We usually have around 12 Patrols for the weekend.

  • Amateur Radio
  • JOTI – Internet Chat
  • Fox Hunting
  • Geocaching
  • Radio Orienteering
  • Kit Building (this year with a take-home ‘FM Bug’ kit)
  • Mast Building – with a twist!
    • Scouts work as a Patrol to build a mast, which we then lash an antenna to. We take a Patrol Photo which is sent by SSTV to an on-site SSTV repeater, stamped, and sent back – all in front of their eyes!

Amateur Radio Station: VK3SAW

Our amateur radio station will be active on HF, IRLP and DMR at the times listed below under Activity Rotation.

We will be accessing IRLP via VK3RBP (Horsham 70cm, via RF link to Mt Arapiles 2m), on node 6073

We also intend to monitor DMR on the talk groups listed under the ‘Resources’ section of the VK JOTI/JOTA website.

Activity Rotation

Scouts will rotate between each activity base, arriving at a base on the following hours (AEDT, UTC+11):

Saturday: 9am, 10am, 11am, 1pm, 2pm, 3pm

Sunday: 9am, 10am

We expect that our station will be manned from around 9am through to 6pm on Saturday and 9am to 11am Sunday.
