2019 Huon District Jamboree On The Air

Huon District’s 2019 JOTA was held at the Huonville Guide & Scout hall.

This year saw the attendance for the first time of 8 Huon River Guides along with 60 Joey’s, Scout’s, Venture’s & leaders from Cygnet & Huonville over the three day event.

Special guest included the Chief Commissioner of Scouts Tasmania, Michael  & wife Susanne.

Justin, VK7TW, committee member of the Wireless Institute of Australia also made a special visit to see what all the activates were about.

Station operators this year saw Randall, VK7VWY join the usual operators, Gary VK7JGD, Dale VK7FNED, Jackson VK7FJAX, Nicole VK7FNJS & Michael VK7MRS.

26 stations were contacted over the event including, the USA, Honolulu, New Zealand, Brazil, The Netherlands, Germany, Bangladesh, United Kingdom, Australia & of coarse Tasmania thanks to Stuart, VK7FEAT.

Other activities included Fox hunting, Electronic Bug construction & of coarse great food.

Planning is already underway for 2020 & every indications lead to it being a maritime event with lots of water activities.

What this space.

VK7HSD would like to thank all for attending with special to Randall VK7VWY & wife Jodie & Gary VK7JGD for dedicating a staggering 30 hours of their time to make the experience memorable for all who attended.

We would also like to thank the many operators that made contact with us over the event and look forward to making contact again.

 

 

 

 

Huon District JOTA activation 2019

Friday 5.00 pm to 7.00 pm (Guides)

Saturday 12 noon to Sunday 12 noon (Scouts JOTA District Camp)

HF – VHF – UHF bands will be in use including

  • Echolink VK7HSD-L  node number 913668  
  • DMR  id 5057118 

Groups attending include;

Huonville, Cygnet.

All sections, Joey’s, Cub’s, Scouts’s & Ventures along with Girl Guides took part.

Activities on site include:

  • Fox Hunting on VHF & UHF
  • Construction of Mystery electronic devises to take home
  • Standing camp duties
  • And of coarse, lots of fun on the radio !

Did you know, VK7HSD is a dedicated amateur radio station permanently located at the Huonville Scout & Guide Hall.

Currently there are 2 leaders, 1 youth member & 1 parent help with there licences. VK7HSD’s primary role is to allow youth to experiment in the radio world all year round & help to provide a stepping stone towards gaining there licence.
