18 – 20 October 2024

Minderup District at Leighton Battery WWII Tunnels, Mosman Park, WA

Minderup District are once again hosting a base at the Leighton Battery WWII Tunnels as part of the international Jamboree Of The Air/Jamboree Of The Internet (JOTA/JOTI) Scouting event. There’s lots of hands-on radio and internet activities to check out, plus we have a licenced radio operator running radio sessions so we can talk to scouts worldwide, too.

Activities kick-off at 6.30pm on Friday 16th October and continue until 9am on Sunday 18th October.
Registrations are welcomed from Sections, Patrols and individuals. Thanks to the support of the Region, there is no cost to attend this JOTA/JOTI Base.

Participants can expect to test their skills at ham radio, morse code, signal flags, two way radios, radio phonetics, and semaphore, meet other Scouts on Skype and internet chat, and explore the underground tunnels and look-outs unique to this historically significant site.

For those wishing to stay overnight, there is the choice of sleeping inside the tunnels, or camping.
Siblings and family are also welcome to attend during the day.

The base is open from Saturday at 9am, and overnight visitors from Friday 6.30pm. All visitors receive an official JOTA/JOTI badge.

Daytime visit details and registrations can be found here:
Details and registrations can be found here: https://sites.google.com/pelicanpoint.org.au/jota-joti-minderup-base/home
Venturers and older can sign-up as Base Support Crew (Tech Support and Roving Activity Support) at the same location

The Leighton Battery is accessible via Boundary Rd in Mosman Park. Vehicle parking is available in the carpark (near Stirling Highway) and follow the footpath. Participants staying overnight or those with
accessibility needs can contact us to make more suitable arrangements.

Please note:
– We have started the Y3 and A5 forms for you, attached and ready to finalise with your session/group details.
– Gold Boomerang Cubs staying over must be accompanied by appropriate numbers of Leaders.
– If more than one Patrol from a Group is staying over, an adult from the Group with WWCC will need to be available on-site.
– We suggest bringing a picnic to enjoy either before or after your timeslot.
